Enhancing Land for the RMC
October 5-7, 2018
$10-100 suggested donation (includes camping and instruction)
3 meals per day will be provided for an additional $10 per day (Saturday and Sunday)
In 2014 and 2016, a solid team of community members came together a week before the RMC to prepare the land for the installations and remediation work taking place at the RMC, and to learn from the event's organizers in an intimate environment. This pre-RMC work party and get down we lovingly call Fertile Substrate is now central to helping ensure that the RMC runs smoothly, and as such we are doing it again this October!
After arriving Friday evening, October 5th, attendees will be greeted with a communal potluck and space to meet new friends. Saturday and Sunday will be full days of helping with a variety of tasks around the site, which may include:
- Preparing substrates for mushroom cultivation
- Preparing sites for remediation installations
- Installing greywater processing infrastructure
- Setting up indoor and outdoor classroom and workshop spaces
- Building composting toilets
- Designing and implementing a thermophilic compost and humanure processing site
- Gathering and splitting firewood
- Building benches
- Painting signage
This work will provide valuable skill sets for those seeking experience in coordinating educational events. And after each workday, attendees will rest under the stars, enjoying discussions and presentations by the organizers and attendees around the campfire.
In exchange for the knowledge gained, we are asking for a $10–100 donation for the whole weekend of activities. Saturday and Sunday's breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided for an additional $10 per day.
